Social Studies Quiz Mayhem!

Pictured above are photos of the first of the year 9 social studies quizzes.  Teams were competing to be the top team in a competition run by Mr Martin and ably assisted by Mr Tofia during periods 3 and 4 today.  The boys had an excellent time, stretched their brains, worked really fast and even sang a Whitney Houston song for extra points.  Marking teams from Year 11 and Year 13 were also involved and they enjoyed the challenge too. The breadth of the boy's general knowledge was very impressive and they had an excellent time.

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness

Reviewed by Jordan Farquhar (Year 9) for the 50 Book Challenge
Todd is a boy whose Mum and Dad have died and he is being raised by family friends, Ben and Cillian.  He lives in a town where there are only men and you can hear everyone's thoughts in what is called the Noise.  One day when he is out in the swamp he finds a girl and he has to save her and take her away from the town.
What I liked most about it were the fighting scenes and the running scenes and how Aaron dies because he really should have died ages ago! What I didn't like was when Todd's dog Manchee died, he was so cool and he had a cool personality.
I rate this book 4 our of 5 and recommend it for fast readers because thefight scenes will be more realistic if you read them fast and I think it would really suit readers who are above 13 - 14 years old.

Here is a fan made book trailer of the book
