The Governor-General of New Zealand visits King's High School

His Excellency, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, GNZM, QSO Governor-General of New Zealand, and Lady Janine Mateparae visited King's High School today.

It was a real priviledge to hear him as he addressed the students in the performing arts centre, there was a morning tea, and he and Lady Janine Mateparae and their entourage, came to the library to chat with some of our senior student leaders and some very lucky junior students.

He spoke to the students about his life in the military, about making sure they kept their options open in their lives, about trying new things even if they seemed scary.  He talked about choosing your friends well, and making good decisions.  It was really inspiring to hear him, and they boys enjoyed the experience. They also relished the opportunity to ask him questions

Social Studies Quiz tests everyone's knowledge

Today Mr Martin and Mr Benham ran a social studies quiz for 9RG and 9MN students during period 4 and 5 today.  It was loud, it was fun, and it was really challenging.  Students competed for a prize donated by Mr Reddiex and generally had a fantastic learning (and remembering) time.  They had a lot of questions from topics they have been studying, and did really well at recalling the facts and information they had learned.  They had lots of other questions from the newspapers and current affairs, which were very challenging.  Here are some photos of the event!
