Dirt bike daredevils by Pat Withers and Mat Hoffman: The Ride of my life

Reviews by Jamie Todd (Year 9) As part of the 50 Book Challenge

Dirt Bike Daredevils is a story about Jake and peter who are on another sport mission, but the the exact same as the others in the series (Extreme series).  In this one they save someones life.  I have read all the books in this series now and I really need Ms Schaumann to get some more!

The ride of my life by Mat Hoffman
This is the true story of a hero called Mat Hoffman.  He is a professional BMX biker.  It was his mission to save the sport from extinction.  He made a lot of moves up and hurt himself majorly just trying to save BMX.  This book is really good and if you like BMXing you should read it.  There are three copies in the library.  The photos of Mat Hoffman from keegy.com and the Texas New Media Group on Flickr.

The Fill Your Brain Board

Here is a photo of the final hours of the Fill Your Brain Board before a re-vamp!  We have lots of new books in the library, and there will be lots of 'stuff' for your bains in the form of places to go and look for information, links to places that have information to make exams go better.  There will be some thoughts from students who have done well in exams, all manner of things to fill up your brain as we head towards exams and deadlines.  So watch this space.

The dead of the night by John Marsden

Reviewed by Nick Barth (Year 9) as part of the 50 book challenge

What is it about? It's about 6 friends who set out to find company, but when they do it's not what they expected. After their encounter with the Harvey's Heroes, they want revenge and fint it in the way of explosives. It follows on from the first book.
What did I like most about it? It had action and mystery like the first but also has some more about the friends and their relationships, and it really gets inside their heads.
What didn't I like? It has some boring bits, but that's only a tiny part of the book! I have to read the next one now!

Tomorrow when the war began

For years the Tomorrow Series has been a huge hit at the King's High Library. It has action, warfare, friendship, survival, romance, thrills and a story that keeps boys gripped from the beginning of book 1 until the end of book 7. The series is one of the biggest selling books for teenagers all over the world and has been translated into many different languages, with universal appeal. We teach it at Year 9 and studying the first book almost always means that the second book is on our top ten list.

The story starts with a group of teenagers all heading out for a camp in the bush, on their return to town they find that an armed force has taken over their town, and their families are being held captive. They have to do something, but they also have to survive.

Below is the movie trailer for what they are calling The Tomorrow Series. I hope it is good, it looks really exciting from the clip below. Enjoy.
